Karen Sletten
Karen E. Sletten is an experienced estate planning attorney with over 24 years of legal practice. She currently accepts matters in estate planning, probate, trust administration, disability and guardianship issues.
Education
Karen E. Sletten received her Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School in May of 1985. While in Law School, she was awarded Best Brief for her participation in the International Moot Court. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and a minor in Russian language. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1982. Her Series 6 securities license was granted in January of 1995 as a part of her work at Firstar Bank.

Attorney Karen E. Sletten is the owner and principal attorney in her firm, Sletten Law Office, LLC. The firm has been accepting matters in estate planning, probate and guardianship matters since its establishment in 1992. Her extensive experience in Trusts range from the an attorney with the Law Division of Norwest Corporation , serving as counsel to t the Trust Departments affiliated with Norwest Bank Minnesota, to Assistant Vice President of Trust Division and Business Development for First Bank, NA, in Minneapolis.
Her legal experience includes:
- Extensive experience (22 years) with estate planning and probate matters.
- Established a successful law firm with more than 80 clients gained through referrals (banks, financial planners and accounting firms), which provided estate planning and probate services to individuals with net worth ranging from $200,000 to $800,000.
- Significant work drafting a wide variety of instruments including wills, revocable trusts and irrevocable insurance trusts.
- Assisting clients with estate planning and probate issues, planning for disability and medical assistance.
- Administering probate estates, both taxable and nontaxable, and handling guardianships proceedings for elderly and disabled clients.
- Assisted clients with estate planning and probate issues as well as planning for disability.
- Advising trust officers in areas of trust administration, real estate, and Individual Retirement Accounts.
Ms. Sletten was a law clerk in the United States Attorney’s office from 1983-1984 and served as law clerk supervisor in the final four months in that position.
Memberships and Community Involvement
Attorney Sletten is a current member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Chapter Board of Trustees, Minnesota Northstar Chapter, and also serves as Chair of their Donor Development Committee. She is a current member of both the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Ramsey County Bar Association. Karen belongs to the Minnesota Women Lawyers and Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights, and is a member of the alumni association for Pi Beta Phi social sorority. She is a past Board Member of Face to Face Counseling Services in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
